GDIV 310: Dissertation Intensive

Dissertation Intensive Description

The University of California, Riverside’s Graduate Division and Graduate Writing Center designed the Dissertation Intensive (GDIV 310) as a program for students who have advanced to candidacy within the previous academic year and have had their prospectus approved by their dissertation committee. The seminar will meet once per week for two hours to share dissertation writing, discuss successes and challenges, learn strategies for compiling and managing research materials, establishing a daily writing practice, and making normative progress towards dissertation completion. During each class period, the students will meet in small groups which will be loosely based on discipline and stage of writing. Students will also meet individually with either the Graduate Writing Center Specialist or Lead Consultant to discuss their individual progress.

Dissertation Intensive Objectives

By the end of the program, students will have produced a draft of one dissertation chapter and a timeline for completion of the full dissertation. Additionally, students will have gained knowledge of various techniques for research, writing, and documentation that will benefit them throughout their dissertation process, including having formed small writing accountability groups.
