National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Application Workshop Series

What is the NSF GRFP?

NSF

The purpose of the NSF GRFP is to help ensure the quality, vitality, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States and broaden the participation of the full spectrum of diverse talents in STEM. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based Master's and Ph.D. degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and STEM education fields within NSF's mission. This effort is accomplished by providing up to three years of support with an annual stipend of $37,000 for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. The GRFP supports over 100 subfields.

The NSF GRFP 2027 application portal will likely open around September 2026. Application deadlines vary by discipline, but generally fall in November of the same year. Specific deadlines and further details will be announced in late summer or fall 2026.
